An important thing to remember is that gunlancer scales extremely well with engravings, especially blue lancer - since your shield is basically always up (if you have specialization & time your shout right) a lot of the negatives to engravings are basically negligible. Gunlancer is a dps class just like the rest. With that being said my top 3 picks for highest DPS when played properly are Barrage Artillerist, Igniter Sorc, and Empress Arcana. My personal pick being Arty due to the massive amount of push-immunity allowing you to greed entire rotations where most classes would have to reposition or dodge. 8. Another desired class is Gunlancer because is a good dps, tanky af, and can shield+dispell debuff the party which is the most support oriented from dps classes.For story, start with a dps class.
